Eagle Boards of Review
Eagle candidates, you will receive a letter notifying you of the date, time and location of your scheduled Board of Review. Boards are typically held at the Scout Service Center.
Eagle Board of Review members and potential members. Any adult (21+), registered Scouter or not, may serve on an Eagle Board of Review, they just need to be knowledgeable about the Scouting program and in particular the Eagle rank. However, Unit Committee Chairmen, Scoutmasters and Advancement Chairmen may not serve on a board for one of their Scouts. Likewise, any Troop leader or other adult who has signed either the Eagle Project workbook or Eagle Rank application may not serve on that Scout’s board. When boards are scheduled, an email will be sent to those who have indicated they wish to serve asking for volunteers for that board. Eagle boards are typically held once a month.
Eagle Boards are conducted by a minimum of 3 and maximum of 6 members. Their decision must be unanimous for approval of the rank advancement. The tradition in Algonquian District is a Board of 3 – two members provided by the District from outside the Troop and one member from the Troop in accordance with the guidelines above. The Board is primarily an examination of the Candidate’s character, Scouting knowledge and a conversation about his experiences in Scouting rather than a test of his Scouting skills. The Board of Review normally lasts between 30 and 45 minutes.
With successful completion of his Board, the Council submits the approved Eagle Rank application to National in Irving, TX for approval. Advancement to Eagle is not official until the rank application is approved by the National Committee, so arrangements for a Court of Honor should not be confirmed until official word is received. Approval usually takes two or three weeks. When approved by National, the Eagle date of rank is the date of the Board of Review.

Scouts, if you are looking for a merit badge counselor, ask your Scoutmaster. “Your interaction with the Scoutmaster in discussing work on a merit badge, and obtaining a counselor’s name, is an important part of the merit badge plan.”
